South Bend is one of the top 3 most romantic places in Indiana, according to the Indianapolis Star, and we live right in the city. How lucky is that?!
One of the most romantic spots I can think of is Tippecanoe Place Restaurant, located at 620 W. Washington Street, this beautiful mansion used to be the home of Clem Studebaker back in the late 1800’s.
This elegant mansion has a formal lobby with a piano and a fireplace. There’s also a sweeping grand staircase, perfect for making an entrance. The bar is located upstairs, and the main dining rooms are downstairs. Elaborate woodwork and decor, along with majestic views of the well-manicured grounds make every seat in the house a feast for the eyes. (And if your passion is history, this place will be extra-romantic, as there are all sorts of stories and things to learn about the building.)
And speaking of feasts, my husband and I went to Tippecanoe Place for my birthday dinner, and it was delicious! (and very, very romantic!)
I started my meal with a spinach salad, dressed with a homemade mustard vinaigrette, almonds, apples, and dried cranberries, this is the perfect fall salad. I paired it with a really nice Malbec. Sam opted for his favorite french onion soup, and an Octoberfest beer.
For our main course, I had the Indiana Roast Duckling with a raspberry cherry reduction. It was served with a cheesy basil risotto (I could have just eaten a bowl of this, even though the duck was to die for!) and green beans. Sam had prime rib with au jus and horseradish sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans.
This is a great date night location. Or, do what Sam and I did and have your wedding reception here, too! Your wedding guests will be amazed at the fancy venue, and the atmosphere is perfectly cozy for a wedding of about 80 guests. And every time you have a romantic date night here, you can remember your awesome wedding!
Three cheers for romance in South Bend!
