About a month ago, I wrote about how I’m always on the quest for the perfect taco, so when I saw there was a new taqueria on 933 just south of Cleveland Road in South Bend, I got pretty excited.
Taqueria Janitzio has very good and very inexpensive authentic Mexican food. Their menu consists of tacos, burritos, tostadas, tamales, gorditas, quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas and tortas (Mexican sandwiches). The best part is that in addition to a la carte items, they have really great combination plates where you can try multiple items and pick your meat filling for each. All plates come with rice and beans. I tried the tacos al pastor, a tamale, and a gordita – all were excellent. Their pastor (marinated pork) is super flavorful and the chipotle cream chicken filling was also very good. They have a bunch of traditional Mexican sodas available. I had a bottle of the Jamaica (hibiscus) Jarritos soda – yum.
The prices are very reasonable – combination meals range in price from $6.99 to $12.99 – and you get a ton of food.
The owners own multiple restaurants in the area, including the highly-rated La Perla Market and Restaurant in Benton Harbor. Taqueria Janitzio is located at 402 N Dixie Way in South Bend. If you like Mexican food, you should definitely give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
